I didn't know anything about Beyond the Night before watching it at the Austin Film Festival last night. I read the caption on the website and had seen that Zane Holtz (an Austinite whom I've seen at past festivals in town, including the Austin Film Festival) and Adrian Grenier, who serves as an Executive Producer, would be appearing for a Q&A after the film, and I trusted that it would be a good film based on that alone.
Beyond the Night begins with Holtz's character, Ray Marrow, returning home from active duty in Syria after his wife is killed in a car accident. His five year-old son, Lawrence, who was also in the accident, begins having visions and saying mysterious things when Ray takes him back to his wife's home town to bury her. Once Lawrence reveals details of the disappearance of a local teenager, the town and the missing girl's father, demand to know how he came to know these specific details in a place he's never been full of people he's never seen before. This film deals with the possibility of reincarnation and how people deal with loss and tragedy and is expertly acted. I recommend checking it out if you get the chance! Director Jason Noto discussed his research of birth marks and reincarnation during the Q&A after the screening which you can view below (Also featured is Zane Holtz, Adrian Grenier and Robin C. Garvick):
